5 Tips for Handling Questions in Group Sessions

It's great when you have a class where students feel comfortable asking questions. It shows they’re engaged and eager to learn. But questions can also derail a class if not handled properly. Here are our tips for keeping the questions flowing without slowing the momentum. 👇

Keeping Questions on Track

We want questions flowing in a digital skills class. It means learners are engaged. But too many interruptions can derail the flow of a lesson if not managed properly. Here are our tips for encouraging questions while keeping your class on pace.

1. Answer On-Topic Questions Immediately

Encourage students to ask in-topic questions as they come up during your presentation. This helps clear up any confusion and is one of the bonuses of having a real teacher to learn from. On-topic questions benefit the whole class and help move the lesson forward.

2. Beware Off-Topic Questions

Off-topic questions can derail a class quickly. If a question drifts into personalized or off-topic territory, suggest they save it for a one-on-one chat after class. You might say, "That’s a great question! Let’s discuss it after we finish this section." This ensures that the session remains productive for everyone.

3. Wrap Up With Q&A Time

Wrap up your presentation, leaving about 10-15 minutes for a Q&A. If you keep these questions on-topic, the whole class will learn from the answers and give you time to answer questions without interrupting your teaching flow.

4. Staying After Class

There may be times when you stay a few minutes after class to address other questions. That is very kind of you! But avoid turning it into another full lesson. This way, those who need to leave on time won't feel like they're missing out.

5. Consider a Bonus Q&A Class

Consider setting aside an additional Q&A session after you've covered all the Unscammable content. This extra time session gives everyone a chance to ask lingering questions, and hearing the answers reinforces their learning. It's also a great time to share tips and success stories about how they are using new skills.
